How to Ensure a Flawless and Long-Lasting Bridal Makeup Look

Updated: Jul 20, 2023

So you have been searching for the perfect bridal hair and makeup team to accommodate you and your party for your wedding. You did your research and decided to book with us and are surprised by our thorough hair and skin preparation guide because you were not aware of what it truly takes to have a flawless and long-lasting makeup look.

We have lots to unpack here, but let's start by remembering that no matter how good or expensive a product is, our session is just one day. This means that in one single day no product (regardless of its potency) can reverse months or years of skincare neglect.

It's important to cultivate a smooth canvas on which the makeup will be applied. Below you'll find tips on how to ensure a flawless and long-lasting bridal makeup look. If you don't know where to start, here are some tips to bring you awareness and get you started:

  • Learn your skin type. There are many ways of telling what your skin type is, and this is the very first step to understand what your skin needs. No, you do not require a 10-step daily skin care routine, but it is crucial to know what your skin requires in order to prepare it accordingly for wedding-day makeup application.

    1. One of the most popular and easy ways to determine your skin type is with the blotting sheet method: After washing your face with a gentle cleanser, pat it dry and wait a few hours. Some people will be able to see changes within 30 mins, but I like to recommend a few hours to really give your skin time to adjust. Then, press a blotting sheet against different areas of your face. If the sheet picks up a lot of oil, you have oily skin. If it picks up little to no oil, you most likely have dry skin. If it picks up some oil in your T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), you have combination skin. Pay close attention to how your skin feels. If your skin does not look shiny and feels comfortable, you most likely have normal skin.

  • Hydrate. We cannot stress enough the importance of drinking water for healthy skin. Every skin type benefits from a hydrated body. To optimize the health and look of your skin for makeup session, do drink plenty of water daily. You'll thank us later!

  • Choose the products for your skin type. For dryer skin types, look for hydrating or oil-based formulas in your cleanser, serum and moisturizer. This is going to also help achieve that sought-after glow naturally. For oily skin types, look for oil-free/water-based formulas in your cleanser, serum and moisturizer to help keep the oils at bay.

  • Start small. Don't believe the hype! As I mentioned earlier, you do not need a 10-step skin care routine. Don't let anyone's lengthy skincare routine scare you. You are welcome to work your way there as you progress. The good news is that you can start small and strong by being consistent. To keep it simple, you can start with a cleanser, toner or serum (to target a specific concern), moisturizer and SPF (for daytime). See? Easy and quick.

  • Be consistent. Consistency is the key to success in anything we do, including skincare. You can have a luxury-products skin care routine, but if you're not consistent, save your money! You need to nurture your skin daily to achieve long-term results.

If you have any severe skin conditions or concerns, see a dermatologist to receive the appropriate care for your specific skin concerns.

The earlier you start, the healthier the skin will be and look before wedding day. This the key to prevent cakey makeup and ensuring your makeup grips and lasts. It makes an astronomical difference on your makeup finish and the way it looks in photos from all angles.

Happy flawless glam!
